Want a really GOOD ice cream receipe ?
I mean the kind that will make you want to eat it until you absolutely HURT ?
Strawberry: 1 package of strawberry jello 1 quarts of strawberries, mashed well 1 pint whipping or heavy cream 1 quart 1/2 and 1/2 In a 4 quart White Mtn hand crank ice cream freezer container, dump the above in the metal container, and assemble the freezer. Fill with cube ice and about 1 1/2 cups rock salt. Then add 1 gallon of water to make a quick brine slush. Crank for about 15 minutes and pig out !! Best dadgum ice cream you ever put in your mouth !! Variations: Peach ( use peach jello ) Banana ( use a banana jello ) By the way: Secret ice cream info: If you go to buy an ice cream churn, look for one that has the 'double' gear....where the hand crank turns the inside guts of the make in one direction and the outside of the cream container in the other direction......THIS type churn will make ice cream in about 1/3 the time as a single gear deal. Real easy to tell them apart.....flip the crank upside down, and turn the handle....you see two gear cogs moving in opposite directions on the double gear models ( and White Mtn made BOTH )....THAT's the one you want. Also, a clear plastic lid to the cream container is handy....you can see the cream freeze and expand up against the lid as you crank in addition to the stiffness of the crank as it freezes. That's it......I've given ya'll 35 years of ice cream making secrets right there !! |

Finally....something useful in the survival prep section:applause_
Thanks for the recipe! I'd like to try it out soon. We haven't used our ice cream maker this summer yet....I know it's very sad. It's time to bring this bad boy up from the basement. Attachment 18035 |

Re: Want a really GOOD ice cream receipe ?
We've made "double batches" the last couple runs.....that way I get to use the ice twice ( I'm cheap ). A 6qt churn will fill 5qt freezer containers with some lost to taste testing.....ahahahaaaa....then we have a couple gallons of ice cream to enjoy the next few weeks.
Found another churn at a street fair last year.....White Mtn like above in GMBoy's photo....snagged it for 40 bucks, they sell new for well over 100....this one doesn't appear to have ever had the first batch made in it.....only thing wrong is the lower ring around the outside has a small amount of rust on it like it had been sitting in a damp basement. And it's the DOUBLE GEAR crank....again, VERY important feature if you go looking to buy one. I saw another one at a yard sale one day, it was an Alaskan brand...built very similar to the White Mtn, but was a single gear crank. Told the guy I wasn't interested and he asked why....told him....he said "well, I grew up in an orphanage.....WE never had ice cream, I don't know nothing about them"......you meet all kinds..... |

Re: Want a really GOOD ice cream receipe ?
Works the same with peaches/peach jello. We made a bunch last year from our peaches, but this year, they rotted on the trees due to fungus from too much rainy weather.
